What about the rest of us? What is our excuse?
Obesity, heart disease and diabetes are on the rise in the country when a lot of of us can avoid it with smarter food choices, exercise and regular doctor visits. I get that not everyone has the luxury of health coverage that allows for adequate monitoring nor the money to join a gym to work off some extra lbs, but those of us that do are still parked on our expanding butts. HOWEVER, you know what? Even those less fortunate can go for a walk once in a while or take the stairs instead of an elevator/escalator. Even low income people can get some cardio in. And I hope that they would.
What's worse though is and we are passing along TERRIBLE eating habits to our kids. 1 in 3 kids is obese in America. 1 in frickin' 3! Can you imagine watching re-runs on TV today and seeing two of the Brady kids being porkers? Of course not. Kids had responsible parents in the 60s and 70s that cared more about their kids eating 3 meals a day with "real" food. And kids knew what the sun looked like 'cause they played outside. I'm sorry if I sound like a jerk to any readers who are parents, but I ask...do your kids go outside to play with the 3 dimensional people or are they in a virtual relationships? It is so unhealthy on so many levels that they are so little phsyical activity and human interaction.
Do me a favor, go for a walk today. And for goodness sake, take your kid. Then sit down at dinner together afterwards. Chances are you probably don't talk that much anyway. It could be good for both of you.
