So, apparently scientists from Oregon State University have found (and patented) a seaweed that actually tastes like bacon! It's a strain of red marine algae called "dulse" and has an intense bacon flavor. And, get this, it also is said to have more nutritional value than kale. Twice the value, actually.
Dulse has the appearance of a translucent red lettuce, according to an article from UK's The Independent and is a "super food" that is full of antioxidants, minerals and vitamins.
At present, the seaweed is already harvested and ground into a powder and used in things like smoothies but now it is going to slowly make its way on to plates in its natural state.
But let's be honest...it's not about the nutritional value, it's because it tastes like bacon!!
